The North American actor Michael Douglas has had a very close relationship with the island of Mallorca for decades: in 1990 he bought the historic estate of s’Estaca together with Diandra Luker, who was his wife at the time. Douglas made the island his usual summer retreat and, over time, has come to say that Mallorca is his "second home". Now, the Consell de Mallorca has recognized him with the new distinction Mallorca, Terra d’Honor for having projected to the world the "essence, identity and way of life" of the island.
